Astronaut at Apollo 16

General Charles Duke, Jr. is one only 12 humans to set foot on the Moon. He was the capcom for Apollo 11 when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon. He went on to be the 10th and youngest man to walk on the Moon.  He graduated from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD along with earning a master’s in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT .He has also earned honorary doctorates from USC and Francis Marion College.

In 1966, he was selected as an astronaut and was assigned to the Apollo program. He served as a lunar module pilot of Apollo 16 and spent 71 hours on the moon performing scientific experiments. Overall, he logged more than 265 hours in space.
